Sony to Offer One Version of PS3
Sony’s VP of Studios, Phil Harrison, has recently questioned Microsoft’s decision to offer two versions of Xbox 360, saying, “it will merely create confusion for the consumer.” When asked if Sony will follow in Microsoft’s footsteps in offering two versions of its console, Harrison simply responded, “unlikely.” Harrison also said, “I’m not in a position today to share with you all the details but PS3 was a network platform from the very beginning, and that is designed into every aspect of the machine.” He declined comment on the pricing of PS3, but he did say, “We are a business, we do have to make a profit. We can’t just do this for the fun of it - we’re not art house theatre. We have to balance the two.”
What to make out of these comments is anyone’s guess, but I think there are a couple of things you can take out of it:
-Sony will offer one version of PS3
-Sony is committed to making PS3 more compatiable with third party services, and develop relationships with new developers
-Sony is currently trying to promote a new online service that will be superior to Xbox Live
