Today, IBM, Sony, and Toshiba released details of “The Cell”, in which they provide information about the broadband engine architecture, the synergistic processor unit instruction set architecture (SPU ISA), along with programming language details. All three companies hope that by releasing the details of “The Cell”, more products will include “The Cell”. “The Cell” will be PS3’s main processor, and is expected to be an extremely powerful processor, meeting all the needs of the PS3 gamer.
